Festival Postmortem

Tonight we finally got to see what our fellow Monstrous Bodies classmates had been up to all semester. While we were immersed in the production of our own films, we all know that there were moments in which we wondered what Stommel’s other classes were creating, and, of course, if our movie was better. Analyzing Splinter as an Allegory

Splinter is a movie about four people who are stuck in a gas station with a monster made of splinters where only two escape. In spite of the odd plot, Splinter shares a great number of similarities with many horror movies; one movie in particular that Splinter shares similarities with is Paranormal Activity Three. United We Stand, Divided We Fall

If there is an unknown monster with spikes that can’t be killed with the gun, the situation would be more fearful that it would even scare the robber. The movie Splinter captures the attention of the audience with the ambiance of being isolated and surrounded by unknown monsters. There is nobody else on the road, and one faces an emergency situation. What can one do about it? One can either try to solve it by oneself or die alone. If the problem seems impossible for human beings to solve, the probability of “die alone” will seem greater, creating the feeling of empathy and fear. Read More...
